Dance Project of Washington Heights makes dance education accessible and affordable to a whole lot of kids in Northern Manhattan, and your support keeps our mission possible!
I'm Oona Murphy's personal assistant. Sometimes I'm called Dee, sometimes mom, sometimes I'm called things not meant for fundraising pages. Oona is bustin' moves this semester in Eva Bust a' Move's breakdance class. She switches and CCs with friends, new and old. Sometimes she doesn't want to go to class on Saturday morning. Cartoons! But we traipse across J Hood Wright Park to Oz (aka The United Palace) anyway. Then something happens in the dance studios on the 2nd floor of that krazy kool building. A little music. A little movement. And... magic happens. A light goes on inside her. She's introduced to a new move. It's hard. It challenges her balance, her strength, her coordination, her timing. A lyric makes her laugh. She steps solidly on a downbeat, and it's uplifting. She makes connections with her peers, with the music, with her body. She looks in the floor to ceiling mirrors, and she likes what she sees. Her smile takes her mom's breath away. She flips two thumbs up, because Eva is ALL THAT. DANCE is ALL THAT. Oona wants you to know that ALL CHILDREN DESERVE TO FEEL THIS GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES! Would you please consider "bustin' a move" to keep our Pay-What-You-Can dance program "footloose and fancy free?" Oona thanks you, and so does her personal assistant :)
Dance Project of Washington Heights is an amazing non-profit organization that provides pay-what-you-can dance classes for kids and teens living in Washington Heights and Inwood. This Giving Tuesday would you join us in giving the gift of dance to a class of children or a month of classes to one child?
All of our classes are pay-what-you-can, so that everyone can participate even if they can't afford tuition. That means we rely on community support to cover the costs of offering our classes - that means you! Help us keep this going so we can continue to provide dance to the families in our community.
